Meet the Contractor: Erion
Sweeten handpicks the best local general contractors for major renovations. The screening process can be a bit technical (licensing, insurance, references, portfolios, experience and beyond…!) but we love getting to know these experts and want to share their stories with you – where they’re from, what they love most about construction, and what renovation challenges they face. Today, meet Erion!
Where are you from and how long have you been in construction?
I’m originally from Albania. I have been in construction for about ten years. I opened up my own company about five years ago, but I’ve been a construction worker in the past and worked with friends and partners.
How did you get into construction?
I moved to the US when I was 13 years old. Coming here, I guess, everybody seemed to be in construction. My dad worked in construction and I grew up with it. Building is something that I really liked. When clients look at what I built and say “wow” – getting a reaction like that from the people you’re working for is very rewarding to me.
Who is your ideal client?
My ideal client would be somebody who has a vision of what they want to do and who I can help to bring their vision together with my experience. I like collaborating with my clients to do something new that maybe hasn’t been done before and creating something fun and exciting.
What do you like about Sweeten? How has it helped you with your business?
It has definitely helped me — for one thing, it has definitely helped me get to a range of clients as opposed to going through certain channels and meeting similar groups of people. Sweeten has provided me the platform to tap in to all types of backgrounds and types of people. Through Sweeten, I’ve worked for artists, interior designers, architects, fashion designers, and many more creative people. It’s been really exciting.
Yankees or Mets?
I’m sorry, I don’t even watch baseball. But, I will pick Mets because I lived in Queens for 15 years!
Favorite New York City building or structure?
Anything that’s in Soho. The iron – anything that has to do with iron in the facade.
