An East Village penthouse turns industrial and rustic

This week we’re taking a look inside a finished project by a Sweeten network member. We fell in love with Bulson Management’s penthouse renovation on 13th Street in the East Village. The renovated space takes advantage of the building’s architecture by exposing the existing brick and refinishing steel components throughout. The new home combines a thoughtful selection of materials and finishes for a stylish aesthetic that is equal parts industrial and rustic, yet still restrained and very modern. For the clients who are professionals in the music business, it is the perfect home and space to entertain. Overlooking the kitchen, we can see how the different materials are working together. Kitchen walls are clad with reclaimed wood and feature integrated shelving which creates a rustic, hand-made quality, while the high-gloss ikea cabinets and stainless steel appliances are sleek and modern. We love the contrast of flooring from polished concrete in the kitchen to sleek hardwoods in the dining and living areas.
Also in the kitchen, a custom island mixes reclaimed wood surfaces and high-gloss cabinet faces.
The original, steel-frame staircase is an architectural centerpiece in the penthouse. During the renovation, the Bulson team stripped and refinished the steel frame, then created new treads out of reclaimed walnut.
The open living space emphasizes seamless details like a built-in entertainment system and a minimal fireplace with ebony brick facing from HC Muddox.
No details were spared in the guest bathroom which also mixes a cool, modern palette with the warmth of the reclaimed wood vanity. Chevron tile flooring keeps this bathroom utterly chic.
Upstairs, the master bathroom is light and textural. The skylight plays off an envelope of Bejmat loose tiles from Mosaic House. Flooring is done in Mariposa cement tiles, also from Mosaic House.
No penthouse is complete without a private roof –and this one is perfect for entertaining!

Many thanks to the team at Bulson Management, LLC.
